Considering the joys, sorrows, trials and tribulations
of humanity
Greetings fellow explorers of creative thought:
Based upon the environment, time, place and the culture of the society when mythical tales have been told, each tale is vastly different by comparison to the time and place where humans lived before, and that includes the general environment in which they lived. It’s noted that during each age of human existence there have been marked differences from our time, mainly because of the way stories were told, expressed and/or perceived and these stories appear vastly different from one civilization to another.
After examining previous ages of human beliefs and initiatives taken under particular circumstances, scientists theorized that primitive societies often depended upon unseen elements or advice from the spirits of their ancestors and imaginary Gods to save them from peril. This is where the spiritual leaders, visionaries and shamans of these communities became important in helping these primitive societies to cope with adversity. The Shaman or spiritual leader attempts to solve each mind-boggling problem for his tribe by controlling the forces of the spirit world.
Even in those times, most of the stories told were often changed based on the descriptions of the story tellers. By using dramatic expressions, unusual sounds or other visually creative methods were often included to establish the importance of the stories told of their visions. Many shamans introduced drugs and other mind-altering methods into these ceremonies and converts reacted as if possessed by powerful spirits, including some of their dead ancestors and other powerful unknown spiritual forces.
Well-known psychologist Carl Jung explained that these mind-altering methods actually affects the user as they enter into various transient states of consciousness that affects them physically and mentally.
During these seances, messages conveyed by the shamen were taken seriously by the tribes. Each tribe had their own pantheon of Gods or spiritual deities that they worshipped; and many times as they came into contact with other tribes, there is conflict. Under the canopy of a great sky above and a dramatic, rapidly changing climate, with an endless fury of vast oceans and dwindling natural resources, living was mainly driven by the changing weather patterns and they often had to move and seek better living conditions elsewhere.
EARLY HOMINIDS (HOMO ERECTUS) NOW EXTINCT
Modern scientists have been finding skeletal remains of different human species in ancient cultures throughout history but trying to understand their thought process and belief structures or glean behavioral patterns from their rituals and artefacts, has been difficult. With highly advanced technology and super gadgets, easy access to knowledge that was never in these societies; made modern scientists arrive at new interpretations of the behavior of these former human species. This is because theories at the time and place of those stories were dependent upon the cultural, environmental and social behavior that was experienced, plus the state of mind of the subjects, artists, artisans and story-tellers who perceived and recorded the events. Events that were recorded long after the hominoids were dead.
Example: Recent interpretations of ancient archeological finds often accept or challenge the original established perceptions of the behavior and practices of the ancient people they study. Scientists agree that while artefacts they excavate, tells a story, it is beyond their true understanding of the physical, emotional, spiritual and intrinsic aspects of the culture and practices to determine the lifestyle; another problem is that along with their personal human interaction, it is difficult to know who they really were in the grand picture because they existed in vastly different communities.
Despite that, creative artists interpret and describe unusual carvings and monuments within the cultures that becomes a part of our transient history; and we are sometimes at a loss of how our scientists arrived at some conclusions. It’s as though the archeologists and historians tapped into a reservoir of visual/mental history and flooded us with dramatic visions of their interpretations of the hominoids who lived in the distant past.
While reflecting on the past, we are reminded that some ancient ritualistic practices are still operating within religious, occult and many metaphysical organizations today. Cults and secret societies continue to practice seances as those of past generations of humans who existed before us. We have evolved from being small roaming nomads to live in more structured city dwellings with improved living conditions, but strangely, the human objectives of the past, appear to remain the same in our present world.
In trying to understand the joys, sorrows and the daily trials and tribulations of our ancestors long gone, we are reminded that whatever these human beings experienced in their time, we seem to be experiencing the same in a world that has advanced beyond the age of homo erectus to homo sapiens. It suggests that while human evolution may have advanced, human experiences remain the same.
